The Solo Singing Department in R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music has existed since the College's opening. The Director of the College R.Pfening, L.Albrekht, O.Lysenko-O'Konner, K.Bragin and others were the first teachers of singing, ensemble and choral class.

Then outstanding vocalists teachers K.Everardi, I.Gandolfi came to take their place. In 1886 M.Alekseeva-Yunevich started to work there. She educated a galaxy of famous singers among which the leader of Ukrainian musical culture M.Litvinenko-Volgemut. Professors M.Donets-Tesseer, D.Yevtushenko, Megorycheva worked there.

Famous singers graduated the College of studied before entering to the Conservatory, among them the People's Artist of USSR, Laureate of T.Shevchenko Premium, Professor of P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine Diana Petrinenko, People's Artist of USSR Yevgeniy Chervonyuk, People's Artists of Ukraine Vera Lyubimova, Nina Goncharenko, Roman Mayboroda, Valeriy Buymistr, the Honoured Artist of Ukraine Irina Semenenko, People's Artists of Ukraine, prize winners of many international competitions soloist of Vienna Opera Victoria Lukyanets, soloist of Metropolitan Opera Vladimir Grishko, Honoured Artist of Ukraine Taras Shtonda, prize winners of international competitions L.Povstenko, A.Orel; People's Artist of Ukraine Taisia Povaliy, Irina Bilyk, Katia Buzhynskaya, L.Kravchuk, Yevgeniya Vlasova ond many others.

Now 123 students study at the Vocal Department of the College, among them there are 8 foreigners. They become proficient in mastery of performing in various genres such as classical, folk music, jazz and pop art.

In addition to solo singing students study ensemble and choral singing, history and theory of vocal performing, mastery of artist, Italian, analyze of musical works, solfeggio, harmony and others subjects.

Laureates of competitions and festivals T.Liberman, I.Ukrainets, I.Berezovskiy, O.Fedorenko, O.Lonskaya, L.Akopian, T.Usmanov and others are among today's students.

Many graduates continue education in the P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and others institutions of musical culture, work in leading opera and concert groups of Ukraine and other countries of the world.
